Where did the inspiration come from?
I genuinely connected to the fact that I had the potential for greatness in Seminary. During the first week of New Student Orientation, the academic dean stood in front of a room filled with men discerning the priesthood. He presented on the overall mission for education by introducing to us a Latin word: ELATIO. He said the mission for education is to “bring out” (ELATIO) what’s already within us: my potential for greatness. The opportunity to bring out my potential was due to the influence of every faculty member’s hope and genuine care for me. My encounter with these individuals led me to fall in love with education. In particular, as they invited me to truly encounter myself. Even through the unknown territory of discomforts in myself, the areas of insecurities. The faculty members used education as a tool to get out of my own way. They paved the way so that I could dismiss the lies of “I am not capable” and hold on to the truth that “I am loved and I am well pleased.” This allowed me to discover my vocation and career.
It took me 15 years to discover the ultimate fruit of education. If only I had this genuine encounter before entering seminary, I know I would have done extraordinarily better in high school.
My experience brings to surface the crisis. First, the fact that young people even today allow their insecurities to cloud their priorities to self-improvement. Second, this reality is having a negative effect on your child’s education. Thirdly, it is negatively affecting their motivation to go to college and their decision of what to study. Finally, this issue is stunting their potential to build skills uniquely related to the student’s future major (area of study in college).
How do I help with this?
In short, with my services I have proudly embraced serving students by helping them dismiss any insecurities to “Bring out” their potential for greatness (ELATIO), helping them get out of their own way and giving them the tools to succeed. One among the many remedies I use is helping students discover their future goals of getting to college. Then we will work backwards on how to reach the goal academically, extracurricularly, and personally cohesively with the parents. Particularly, helping the family navigate through the tedious college application and planning process. With great excitement for the student, as I know every student is capable of achieving their personal greatness.
ELATIO is indeed the foundation for my services to the students in every family. This is what gave birth to ELATIO: College Consulting.
